Singapore Primary School Coding Education: Mandatory from 2025!
The Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that coding education will be implemented compulsorily in all primary schools starting January 2025. This initiative, named 'Code for Tomorrow', aims to help students develop computational thinking skills from Primary 3 onwards.
What Will They Learn?
- Block-based coding: Initially, children will grasp coding concepts easily, similar to assembling blocks.
- Text-based languages: By Primary 6, they will also learn actual programming languages like Python.
Ministry's Commitment
To strengthen this coding education, the MOE plans to invest S$50 million in teacher training and improving the educational environment. Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing emphasized that these changes reflect Singapore's commitment to preparing the next generation for the digital economy.
Stay tuned to the Ministry of Education's new initiatives as our children develop essential skills for the future society!
